Tonino is the only person in the famous Montana household who wasn't born with an instinct for creating spells, but he has other gifts. Those who listen to the third in the Chronicles of Chrestomanci would benefit from the background of the earlier books. In this story of feuding families that are adept in spells that are sung, Gerald Doyle fits the bill as a narrator who also has a good singing voice. He proffers an energetic and fast-paced narration centered on the young people from each family, who must work together to save their families and their city. Doyle makes the most of the humor and silliness interspersed between moments of danger and dark goings-on, and brings to life the Punch and Judy puppet shows that play a pivotal role in the story.
